De-clutter your car boot: Carrying unnecessary clutter in your car or boot can increase the amount of fuel use. So have a clear out and cut your carbon footprint at the same time.

Simplify: Simplify your life as much as possible. Only keep belongings that you use/enjoy on a regular basis. By making the effort to reduce what you own, you will naturally purchase less/create less waste in the future.

 

Recycle your old mobile phones. It's a great way to make some extra cash, it helps the environment as your mobile will be restored and then sent on to be reused through different charities. In Spain www.zonzoo.es is a great mobile recycling company who works with over 40 charities to recycle and reuse your unwanted mobile phones.

 

Set specific energy reduction goals to reduce your energy consumption for electricity, gas, and the gallons of fuel consumed in your car(s) - for example, commit to using 20% less per month. You can also use a product like the OWL Energy Monitor which allows you to read your energy consumption on a daily basis and reduce high consumptions where necessary. 

 

Plant species native to your region: thyme, rosemary, sage are good options... they will require less water for maintenance and can be used as a condiment or as a natural cure or therapy.

Do you know how regularly you should water your plants? The majority of us actually over water our pot plants. If you use a Water Stick from Dry Planet it will let YOU know when your plants need watering. 

 

Replace bleach with vinegar. They have the same disinfectant qualities, yet vinegar is much less harmful to river life and much easier to remove. You can use it to scrub the floors, windows and remove drain odors. 


Don't wash or rinse glass and plastic before recycling. All materials are cleaned and sorted at the recycling plant anyway. You'll save waste and water doing this. So just pop your used glass and plastic into your Ecobox as they are when you've finished with them. Rinse not waste not!

 

Re-use shopping bags and packaging. Look before you throw anything away! In the bottom of all packages you will see the recycling symbol and in the number of times it can be reused.

A good heat collector is a row of flowerpots on your windowsill or perhaps even an indoor window box. The earth will store warmth during the day, helping the plants to grow and warming the room at night.

 

Help save on your heating bills and put reflector paper down the back of your radiators, if you want you can make your own panels with tinfoil on cardboard, stuck to the wall behind the radiator. 

 

When shopping for fresh food, shop locally, it helps support the local farmers and businesses and saves on the petrol.  Also try and buy food in season.
 

When washing your vegetables, use a bowl of water, then when you are finished use that water for watering your plants.
